MACKAY’S LOCAL ROADS HAVE
BEEN SHORTCHANGED…
For at least the past six years, local roads controlled by
Mackay City Council have been under-funded.
While Council's collection of general rates has increased
exponentially, their spending on capital road works has
remained relatively stagnant.
The result is both an urban and rural local road network
that is substandard and needing millions of dollar spent on it
to bring it up to standard.

HOW DO WE FIX IT?
Roads are the most important basic function of local
governments.
This message has to be driven home to all Mackay Regional
Council candidates.
You can do this through a number of means including
sending a letter/SMS to The Daily Mercury, by contacting
council candidates directly or by signing our online petition
that can be found in our
SIGN PETITION section.
You may even wish to take the opportunity of nominating
your road as one of Mackay’s worst in our
YOUR SAY
section.

QUICK FACTS

RATES ARE UP
Mackay City Council's general rates
collection has increased exponentially
between the 2000-01 and 2005-06
financial years.

CAPITAL ROAD
WORKS SPENDING
IS DOWN
Mackay City Council's capital road
works budget has remained relatively
stagnant between the 2000-01 and
2005-06 financial years.

THE QUESTION IS: WHY HASN'T MACKAY
CITY COUNCIL'S CAPITAL ROAD WORKS
SPENDING GONE UP AT THE SAME RATE
AS THEIR GENRAL RATES GROWTH?
